Happy Friday to you! I was busy yesterday, thought I would fill you in. I got up early and headed out to the local welfare office. A friend of mine works there and I had promised later that day to help her set up for the Dinner Bell. Every Thursday night, during non tourist times of the year, several people get together and prepare a meal at the church. Sue (my friend) does the cooking for this event. The food is paid for by donations and the church there. The meal is served to those who can attend, they can donate if possible or just eat. This is a wonderful service for the older generation, financially challenged or anyone just wanting to get out and have dinner with other people. Last nights dinner was pork roast, peas, mashed potatoes (from scratch), gravy, rolls ans for dessert ice cream pies. There is also a spot set of to serve yourself beverages, and those consisted of regular coffee, decaf, fruit punch and ice water.

So, after she got out of work at noon at the welfare office, we walked over to the church to get everything set up for dinner. One of the other ladies met us there with her fiancee, with the food. They picked it up at the grocery store on their way over. Her name is Judy and his is Earl. Earl did not stay long, busy with the police, some one had stolen his truck recently and it has not been found. The thief was caught, but the vehicle is missing. Anyway, we dove in peeling potatoes and preparing the pork roasts for dinner. Six bags of potatoes and four huge pork roasts later, we began setting up the dining room. Once everything was set up and cooking, more volunteers began arriving to finish setting up the food, and serving the guests. The long and short of it, was we had a busy day, and I for one really enjoyed, feeling like I was part of something again. That really has been the hardest part about not working (obviously other than the lack of funds) not feeling like I am needed for anything. That is why I decided to do this, just to see if it helped. It helped a lot!

Once everyone was fed, we ate, and then the cleanup began. Lots of dishes, they used real plates and silverware. So we had all the pots, pans, baking dishes, serving dishes, plus the usual plates and silverware. It was really fun, we ll cut up with each other and laughed a lot. It was one of the best days I have had in a while. getting out of the house was great, but being able to do something that helped some one too, was wonderful! It was a chance to reconnected with a few faces, I haven’t seen since I was working and meet new faces as well. Nice night.

Today, it is back to looking for work, and a few errands to run. I feel so much more optimistic and worthwhile too. Maybe with any luck I will paint today too. Wishing you and yours the best of times today and all weekend. Sending you my love as always, diana

Happy Valentines Day!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on February 14, 2011 by dianaswonderworks

Today I am working on a drawing I started a couple of weeks ago(before I got the flu). Lots of tiny detail work. Although money is tight and my abilities to go celebrate the holiday in customary fashion are hindered. It is none the less my favorite holiday of the year, besides Christmas. These two holidays remain dear to me for one reason, they are so focused on love.  On this Valentine’s Day, I wish for you a happy one. If you have some one to share it with do it. It does not matter if you have money to spend on each other, what matters is just showing them you care. If you do not have that special some one, like a husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend, do not despair. Do something kind for a neighbor, friend, child, parent or anyone you feel drawn to share a little bit of love. A simple act of kindness is all, just to let that person (who may not have some one to get that from) feel loved or appreciated, just noticed on a day, when it is so easy to feel out of the loop!

As an example, I remember that for my daughters, every year on Valentine’s Day, we had out own little ritual. I would get up early and make thin German pancakes(chocolate flavor), and fill them with fruit filling(usually strawberry or cherry) and then top them with whipped cream. To go with it a nice mug of home made hot cocoa with whipped cream or marshmallows. With their breakfast, I would lay out a card, heart shaped box of chocolates for them to share with friends, and any other gift for that day. Since it is not a school holiday, I wanted to make sure they were able to get that special love from me to carry with them through out the day. No matter who got something from this boy or other, they had that special time with me in the morning, and it made their day! They still talk about it, and yesterday my youngest called for the recipes, so she could do that for her room mates. I know they had a wonderful day!

So as I head back to work on my artwork, just wanted to say Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours. Just a little extra love today, since today is a holiday of love. After all, we all need to feel special and what better day to feel special than today! Extra love to you and yours, wishing you love of happiness today, diana

Happy Days Are Here Again!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on January 27, 2011 by dianaswonderworks

Well, just got in. Left work a little early to have a apinting framed. Quiet day at the gallery, just a couple of people, no sales. Slow time of year for sure. Ready to eat something and get to work painting. Not sure if I am planning on working on the Mermaid, ,might just wait on that, until I am sure what I am doing. Thinking about a Sunflower one again, a part 2 of the Big One!

Just checked my lottery, not a millionaire yet, but hey, tomorrow is another day and another drawing. Never can tell what tomorrow will bring.

Driving home tonight, I was remembering making noodles with my grandmother as a child. It is such a cool memory, and so different by today’s standards. I remember her rolling out all that dough, spreading flour on it, rolling it out to a paper thin sheet. No fancy rolling machines for! Then she would lay out this huge sheet on her bed to dry out. It had to be four feet, in a huge circle. Then the next morning, my sisters and I would her by making the noodles. She would cut some for a dumpling style noodle, and we had the fun job, She cut others into squares or like a diamond shape. She had this board with ridges in it. We took the noodle laid it out on this board, and with a wooden stick (round and short and thinner than a chop stick), we would press down on the noodle and roll it across the board. It made a tubular noodle with ridges down the center. The top and bottom were not ridged, but made a point. Every day grandpa had to have home made chicken soup. So, every day grandma went out to the yard (they lived on a farm), and she killed a chicken, we had to help her pluck it. Then she made the soup, fresh meat, fresh noodles, it was the best ever! Thinking to myself, I really want to make those again someday. Nothing can compare, I guess that is why I do not like a lot of soups, tastes like water to me. Lost the thrill at an early age, once you have had the best it is hard to go back.

Anyway, just thought I would share. Not so sure how many of you have that memory. A little different from the usual American childhood, I guess. Surprise me, I would love to know if anyone else has a similar memory. Lots of the fancier restaurants now a days are bringing the whole fresh noodle back again. So, clearly I am not the only one to appreciate this delicacy. Another new picture is posted hope you like it. Sending out my love to you as always, hoping you are having a great day! diana

Rockin” And Poppin’ Saturday!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on July 31, 2010 by dianaswonderworks

Sorry I am so late getting on, been a busy, busy day! So far today I am washing my third load of laundry, working on a new drawing, in the process of making potato salad, almost done making home made hot pocket sandwiches, just finished making fresh wheat bread dough, made a loaf of home made banana bread, made steaks, potatoes, cucumber salad, hot mixed vegetables, doing a lot of dishes and talking to my daughter on the phone! Now that I am done with lunch, my only meal do far today, and have reached a minute to break, literally, I am on here to give you my little update for the day! After this and finishing the few tasks I have to wrap up, I will be back to working on my art and a nice bubble bath, and reading my Marketing On Facebook.

So, now that I have that off of my chest, hoping you all are having a great weekend so far! This week has been slow in sales, zero to be exact. I am continuing on my journey to maintain internet advertising, still a long way to go, I am sure. I really haven’t had as much time online as I would like to focus on advertising, and I am sure that hurt some, was so busy setting up some new sites. Now that the worst of the hard stuff is done, I can better balance my time again, on focusing on the push again. Like most people it is hard to find that balance sometimes, too much of one thing leaves little time for others. Hopefully after this weekend it will be back to the old grindstone for me. The drawings I have been working on this week have been tedious ones and are requiring a lot of time. In both cases days for one, considering the size, it is amazing, just lots of detail work. This wee, I think I want to switch gears on work in a different medium, sewing or crocheting, I haven’t decided yet. I just have a need to mix it up a little bit.

Nothing new on the lottery home front, still haven’t made my millions yet, but everyday is another day closer, one way or another! Wow, I am beat, no time for rest though still a lot to do, can’t sit for too long or I will not get done! I picked up some new batteries for my camera yesterday, so I will be able to load some of the bigger drawings on here, as soon as I get a minute, big smile. So, here is a funny quote from me today, a window into my silly world. Just got a new cell phone from a friend, pay as you go type of phone. My boyfriend called in to set it up, and was told he only had ten minutes on it. So when he gets off the phone he relays this message to me. My reply “When we get a minute, we will buy some!” Wish  that life were so simple. I could use a few more this week for sure. He laughed at me, I hadn’t even realized myself what I had said, I was so busy doing so many things. One day soon, I will share some more of my little sayings. I hear they are cute and funny, I just think they are my way of reflecting my own way of doing things. Guess thinking out of the box is not as common as I think it is! Love to you all today, stay safe, love, diana
